Description
This colleges gives an insight into the origins of the historical styles of jazz music.Improvisation and swing play an essential role in this. In addition to this the social, cultural and economic backgrounds aginast which jazz developed will be explored. The usual historical classifications fall short when describing the developments in jazz during the last three decades. In the lecture we will approach the historiografical problems that have arisen in de classical history of jazz. Possible alternatives will be presented for the approaching and classifiaction of contemporary jazz.
