6464CN03 is an advanced course in neuropsychology on a master’s level. Prior knowledge is assumed on a level of the Ba3 course Clinical Neuropsychology
Description
This course provides theoretical foundations in the clinical neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children with neuropsychological problems, including neurodevelopmental disorders (i.e. genetic disorders, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury) and neuropsychiatric developmental problems (i.e. ADHD, PDD). The cognitive, emotional and/or behavioural consequences as a result of these problems are being discussed.
The course involves 7 lectures and an exam addressing the following content domains:
Child neuropsychology: Dimensions of theory and practice and functional neuroanatomic developmental concepts
Common CNS disorders of childhood
Common neurodevelopmental disorders
Neuropsychiatric developmental disorders; i.e. ADHD, PDD.
Neuropsychological interventions within a developmental context.
Course objectives
By the end of this module students will be familiar with issues regarding:
the diversity of neurodevelopmental functioning in childhood and neurodevelopmental disorders;
contemporary theories of neurodevelopmental functioning and disorders in childhood.

Mode of instruction
The lectures are supported by casuistic material and video demonstrations.
The lectures are presented by experts in the clinical field of Child Neuropsychology.
The lectures support the reading/study materials.
Assessment method
(Written) Examination about theory and assessment of Neurodevelopmental disorders. Reading materials as well as information provided during lectures will be examined (2 opportunities per year).

Registration
Introduction and enrolment for courses of the first semester will take place on 2 September 2010. Introduction and enrolment for courses of the second semester will take place on 27 January 2011. More information will be available at the website of the Institute of Psychology.
NB: Exam registration will take place via uSis, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who haven’t registered, cannot participate in the exam.
