Thesis Seminar: International Perspectives on Ethnicity and Conflict

Vak
2010-2011

Description

This thesis seminar is open to any of the IR track students who want to write their MA theses on a topic related to ethnic divisions, ethnic politics, and ethnic conflict from an international perspective. Issues might include: the role of international actors in resolving conflicts, nation-building, or instituting power-sharing arrangements; the relationship between various institutions and ethnic conflict; or the impact of ethnic diversity on democratization. The focus of the seminar is broadly defined to allow students who are interested in issues of diversity and political conflict to benefit from working together on their projects. The first four weeks of Block 3 will be devoted to methodological and substantive issues, while the second part of Blok 3 will be used for writing the thesis proposal. During Block 4 there will be mostly individual meetings to monitor empirical work and the final writing of the thesis.
