Admission requirements

  • Internship, only open to international students from the Master specialisations Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology.

  • Participation implies no other Master internships can be taken within the Master, additional 10 ECT must be acquired through elective courses.

  • Students either need to concurrently follow, or have successfully finished the course Basic Therapeutic Skills.

  • A maximum number of 20 interns applies,

Description

The internship Psychological Coaching of Life- and Lifestyle Issues (PsyCoLiLI) is aimed at students that ant to develope insight and skills in coaching people who desire to monitor and broaden their capacity for self determined behavior and self regulation.
The internship consists of a preparatory learning /practice period of 2 months (February-March, at an average study load of 3 days a week) followed by a practical application period (April-May, at an average of 2 days a week) in which the student conducts several individual and/or group coaching trajectories with students from Leiden University and-or other coaches.

The internship does not qualify as a preparation for the (Dutch) post-Master clinical training (GZ-psycholoog or Psychotherapist)

Course objectives

The internship will cover the following elements:

  • Clarifying, identifying and remediating personal problems concerning ones personal and professional goals.

  • Interventions aimed at envisioning and clarifying future aims of professional and personal development, identifying personal qualities and pitfalls, decision making, mindfulness and self regulation of personal goals and patterns, designing a personal developmental plan.

  • Interventions aimed at acquiring self-regulatory skills in order to maintain or improve health and well-being.

  • The trajectory includes Motivational Interviewing, self regulation of personal goals and patterns, coaching, and evaluation.

Psychological Coaching in Life and Life Style Issues (2011-2012):

Mode of instruction

Lectures, workgroups, individual and group supervision, buddy coaching, simulation sessions, video recording and video feedback on coaching sessions. Homework assignments, case-report feedback, paper presentations.

Assessment method

In order to successfully complete the internship, students must attend and actively participate in all meetings, and complete all assignments, proficiency in working professionally with clients, with the pertaining ethical behavior. An elaborate grading system is applied (available through Blackboard at the start of the trajectory), combining an evaluation of knowledge, insight and skills.

Registration

The internship trajectory is offered once a year. Introduction and application will take place in January 2012. More information will be given during the Master introductions of Clinical and Health Psychology in September and February. Please consult the Agenda master meetings
