Degree students (including Dutch BA graduates): BA degree (or equivalent) in Archaeology, Latin American Studies or a relevant discipline.

Indigenous heritage is an interdisciplinary course covering archaeological, anthropological, and ethnolinguistic topics. The themes change on a yearly basis, and this year it is designed to gain an in-depth knowledge of Amerindian ontologies in the circum-Caribbean.
We focus on key concepts of place and space; sociality and transformation; conviviality and conflict; leadership and possession; historical incorporation and the landscape.
Throughout this course we trace the link between South American Tropical Lowland cultures and the Caribbean. We will base ourselves on ethnographic articles and texts, supplemented with recent archaeological and linguistic literature, to discuss the relations in Amerindian ontologies as seen from these disciplines.
- To gain an in-depth knowledges of and ability to analyse key notions in Amerindian ontologies from a multi-disciplinary perspective;
- Ability to re-evaluate current academic notions of time and space;
- Ability to compare and evaluate current research trends of Amerindian ontologies;
- Ability to demonstrate the relevance of Guianan cultural premises for the Caribbean.
The course load will be distributed as follows:
- 7×2 hours of lectures;
- 280 pages of literature;
