Admission to the Masters programme (European Law specialisation).

Description

In the context of the course Capita Selecta of European Law – Privatissimum, students will focus on a particular topic of European law. This may be, in particular, institutional EU law, substantive EU law, European human rights law, or European migration law. Teaching staff will change from year to year enabling students to benefit from lecturers who teach about the very core of their own research interests. This course format allows for working in small groups and receiving personal feedback from the tutor. After a number of introductory lectures in which students are taught how to do research, write a paper and how to develop their presentational skills, they will be required to write papers, comment on the work of their peers and present their research in class.

Course objectives

Objectives of the course
The course aims at developing students’ research, writing and presentation skills. They will learn to critically reflect on their own work, as well of that of their peers and engage in an academic debate. They will present their draft work in class and will be required to take the feedback they receive on board in the final paper.

The following achievement levels apply with regard to the course:

The students acquire a thorough knowledge in a specific field of European law. Additionally, students will practice their research, writing and presentation skills.

Mode of instruction

Lectures
Introductory lectures on research methodology, plagiarism, writing an academic paper and presenting work in public.

Seminars
During the seminars students will present draft, as well as final papers and receive feedback from their tutor and fellow-students. A number of seminars will take the form of a Q&A session in preparation of the papers.
