Academic Skills 2: Argumentation

Description

In the first year undergraduate courses (1) Text Interpretation, (2) Argumentation, (3) Book Review, and (4) Critical Review, students practice a cumulative series of academic skills that are essential to social scientific study and research. These skills will form the foundation of students’ studies throughout the International Relations and Organization program.

Course objectives

Students who complete the course successfully should gain a better understanding of:

  • The general structure of an argument;

  • Types of arguments;

  • The criteria for good argumentation.

Students who complete the course successfully should improve their ability to:

  • Parse the arguments of others;

  • Establish and present a compelling argument.
