Admission requirements

Basic knowledge of French: A1/A2 (Common European Framework). Please take the language test before registering.

Description

French Elementary: Objectif Diplomatie is a French language course for students who are false beginners (A1/A2 CEFR). It enables French to be learnt in the context of European an international relations and thus is of use to diplomats, international civil servants etc. This course offers a fast and practical method of learning French which is based on the completation of assignments specific to the needs of the target audience. The textbooks are divided into units, each of which contains situations for developing oral and written skills, information about European and International Institutions.

Course objectives

The required competences for a B1 level language can be described as follows: the student can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar and professional matters, can produce simple connected text on topics of interest and give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Mode of instruction

This course builds up the language skills of students who have already a basic knowledge of French and develops the full range of communication skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing. Course contents are grammar practice, vocabulary building, listening, speaking and writing activities. The course based on language learning books, requires a lot of self-study at home. The method of teaching is communicative and classes will be conducted primarily in French. A blackboard site will support the course, hosting a toolbox, course outline+ weekly overview, assignments and assessment.

Assessment method

The students are tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking.

  1. Listening – understanding: assessed in Listening comprehension exam (25% of final grade):Week 5, 10 and 14
  2. Speaking – production and interaction: assessed through Oral presentation + discussion (25% of final grade):Week 5/6 and 14/15
  3. Writing: assessed in Two written exams: reading/vocabulary/ grammar/ creative writing (40% of final grade) :Week 6 and 15
  4. Writing: assessed in Compositions: (10% of final grade): Reading week
