Admission requirements

MA Asia Studies students: Korea Studies (120 credits); East Asian Studies (60 credits) – Korea track

Description

Cursory reading of Korean texts on a subject relevant to the thesis topic of the student. In weekly tutorial meetings, students report on their reading assignment, discussing both the intricacies of the text and its content. Where needed, grammatically problematic passages will be analysed in detail and translated.

Course objectives

To familiarize students with the lexicon of their area of specialization and improve their general reading skills by reading a substantial amount of Korean language materials on a single topic.

Teaching method

Seminar/tutorial (depending on number of students)
Course is given in the 2nd semester in Leiden (for students who go for one year to Korea this will be in the second year, for those who have received dispensation for the year in Korea this will be in the second semester of the first year).
