Speciale Relativiteitstheorie, Klassieke Mechanica a, Classical Electrodynamics and Quantum Mechanics 2
This course gives an introduction to the physics of elementary particles and their interactions. It starts with atoms, nuclei, nucleons and builds up towards a description of the Standard Model of Particle Physics and a basic understanding of the strong, electromagnetic and weak interactions. The course will also introduce the relevant tools and methods to investigate on the particles and their interactions.
The students will acquire an oversight on nuclear models and learn to calculate basic nuclear reactions.
They will get an understanding of the detectors and methods used to investigate on elementary particles and their interactions and be able to apply the relevant calculations of relativistic kinematics to scattering processes in particle physics experiments.
They will gain insights on the process of the model development and constraints from experimental findings and overall gain an overview on all components of the Standard Model of Particle Physics and the model description.
