Quantitative Pharmacology

Description

This lecture series comprises the theoretical basis and application of quantitative pharmacology with the purpose of characterizing and predicting the onset, intensity, and duration of drug effects in patients.

Admission requirements

Students of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences. Adequate knowledge of Pharmacology and Statistics.

Mode of Instruction

The course will mainly consist of lectures and group discussions. Active participation in the discussions and self-study skills are required for this course.

Course objectives

  • Know how PK and PD processes are defined and parameterized and comprehend how disease progression and drug effects are described in PKPD models.

  • Understand basic mathematical principles used in PK-PD models.

  • Understand basic concepts and principles of networks and systems pharmacology and how data mining methods can be used to obtain understanding of these networks.

Assessment method

Written Exam (80%) and active participation (20%).

The course is usually taught in February / March.
