Description

The course aims to describe the physics behind magnetic resonance methods and how magnetic resonance methods are currently applied to solve problems in physics, chemistry and biology.

Course objectives

  • to understand the concept of the spin Hamiltonian and the vector and quantummechanical description of magnetic resonance

  • treat spin-spin interactions and how they appear in the spectra

  • two- and four-level systems

  • to gain insight into instrumental aspects of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments: Application of lock-in detection, continuous wave vs. pulsed EPR

  • multi-frequency EPR experiments
    EPR and NMR

  • Current applications
