Public International Law: Capita Selecta

It is assumed that all students already have a good working knowledge of public international law. On this assumption, the purpose of this course is two-fold: first, to refresh knowledge of the general principles; secondly, to focus attention upon the foundational structures of international law and its enforcement with special attention for the area of peace and security. In the lectures and seminars recent developments and topical issues are discussed, especially those affecting the general principles and including the case law of the International Court of Justice and other (international) courts.

This 15 ECTS course consists of three blocks of 5 weeks each, structured as follows:

  • Foundations and structures of the international legal order

  • The international law of peace and security

  • Enforcing international law
