Neurolinguistics

Description

Introductory course about the representation of language in the brain, in which the following topics are discussed: neuroanatomy, aphasia, language disorders in children, neurocognitive methods (ERP, fMRI), and potentially bilingualism and sign language.

Course objectives

After completing the course, students will have acquired basic knowledge of disorders during language acquisition, language comprehension, and language production as well as of the most important neurolinguistic findings and theories in these areas.

  • Lecture

Course Load

Total course load 5 EC x 28 hours = 140 hours

  • Lectures: (4 hours per week x 7 weeks =) 28 hours

  • Study of compulsory literature: 112 hours

Assessment method

Two written exams with closed questions (multiple choice). Both exams count for 50% towards the final grade and both exams have to be sufficient.

Both exams can be resat in the same resit.

inspection and feedback

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.

A Blackboard page is present for this course. Through Blackboard students are kept informed about current affairs and will receive specific information about parts of the course.
