Archaeology: Field Archaeology

This specialisation is part of the Master’s programme Archaeology.

After graduation, many archaeology students start their careers in Field Archaeology. It is therefore essential to have skills that are necessary to plan and execute field work. The specialisation in Field Archaeology teaches students how desk-based research, field surveys and excavations are planned and carried out; not only in theory, but also in practice. It has its roots in (strictly regulated) Dutch archaeology, but aims to be of relevance anywhere in the world.

The Field Archaeology specialisation educates students in how to translate research questions into adequate fieldwork strategies, how to plan and conduct surveys and how to work in a team (as a ‘commercial’ company) within the framework of the rules and regulations of the Dutch Quality Standard.
