English Language and Culture

The bachelor programme English Language and Culture consists of four main subjects: Philology, Literature, Linguistics and Language Acquisition. The duration of the programme is three years and equals 180 ECTS. The 180 ECTS are divided into 140 ECTS for the main subject, 30 ECTS is equivalent for the minor and 10 ECTS for two general subjects (e.g. philosophy of science). In the first year of the programme (the propedeuse) there are no optional courses. In the second year students follow a minor and make a choice between British or American Literature. In the third year there are only two obligatory courses: Language Acquisition 5 and 6; amongst the courses offered in the three other main subject areas, students can make their own choice. The bachelor thesis is written in the 2nd semeser of the third year.
