Computers and Computing

In our daily life we are constantly dealing with a variety of computer applications. There is almost no profession that doesn’t somehow uses computer systems. With this minor “Computers and Computing” we want to give the interested student a broad understanding of the principles that underlie the capabilities of computers and their applications. This includes programming, the skill to tell the computer what to do, but also knowledge of algorithms (executable methods) to develop efficient solutions. In addition, we will look at how algorithms deal with data; how database technology can be used to process large amounts of data; how users can interact with computers using visual and auditory aids and how algorithms that are derived from natural mechanisms such as
evolution can be used to calculate as well as offer a way to understand natural processes.
